In a world long ago I loved WAPO's comment sections as much as their articles. We had a bit of a family there, recognized our fellow, like-minded subscribers, banded together to mock the RW lunatics piling on with some nonsense. That was the hardest part of giving up that subscription (and why I never loved NYT who allowed 0 spontaneity in their comment sections).

Ah Cyn....I love your post. I remember reading those comments from fellow WaPo readers back many, many moons ago. I admit to cancelling and resubscribing several times since Bezos, but I got a $1.00/month sub as an educator, so I kept it if only to read the local DC/MD/VA section. It is, after all, our hometown paper....despite how much he's ruined it. Why the hell doesn't he just sell it to someone who cares about journalism? He clearly doesn't need the money.
There's always a ton to digest in your Daily Day Ahead, Scott. I appreciate everything you're doing to accurately cover what's going on here in Washington. I, for one, like the videos interspersed throughout the newsletter. Keep up the good work!

I am 70 yrs old and these are the candidates I am excited to vote for!
Yes, we had a great guy running to unseat Chuck Edwards in NC. A physician so really pushing hard for national healthcare. But once again the voters paid no attention and voted for a local farmer who seems completely unaware of the real needs of this city/state/country and signed that absurd Pact to America so people are pissed at him now. As one young local said, "We are really tired of having to choose between the lesser of two evils". I personally am tired of fighting the same fights for 50 years now and still ending up 10 steps back!
Scott, I know this is an old lady’s take, but I thank you for maintaining your professional attire and clean-cut look during your reporting. It’s difficult for me to watch guys in scruffy t-shirts with day old stubble in deep discussions and take them seriously. It’s my strict upbringing in an old fashioned dress-for-success mentality. You always command respect in your persona.
Funny you said that because I have yet to see our new Dem candidate in anything but an untucked shirt, old jeans and baseball cap. And I thought, does he own a suit or is he planning on wearing that to work a la Fetterman? Then I thought, Oh my gosh I sound like Trump berating Zelensky!. :-o
Here is a summer treat I have become completely addicted to and I have always been more of an ice cream girl than a popsicle girl. They are called Holanda Chemisse bars, from Mexico (i mean, this is why we need cultural sharing!) and available at most groceries, I imagine. It is as if a creamsicle and a popsicle had the perfect baby. They come in pineapple coconut (my new addiction) and strawberry coconut and are pretty guilt free with real juice and only 90 calories but who cares about that, I ask? They are a delicious summer treat while we are all sweltering thru 100+ degrees this week.

The loss of renewable energy support due to the Trump regime is our next growing and unnecessary crisis initiated by Trump and his cronies. Do they want more people to suffer and die from lung disease and cancer after expanding the coal industry to “make America great again?” Looking backward is something to be expected of an angry old man like Trump.
It goes right along with the name change, removing Environment. Because they don't care about the environment. I'm not sure Trump even knows what grass is. Except, I heard that he's planning to count the trees in some park in DC to be sure there are exactly 47 trees there. EGO.
NC Dem Governor Stein absolutely did not approve us being part of that ridiculous homage to RW racists, aka the national state fair. In fact, he has been roundly criticized by the MAGAts accusing him of being unpatriotic by not participating...in case anyone wondered.
Thank you, Scott. Your accountability is amazing. The whole mess is overwhelming. All this work and really no governmental accountability for the things that matter for the people. Just fighting the regime.

Maura Healey should take Trump's threats more seriously. It's not "ridiculous“ -- it's hostile! He doesn't want to make it "harder" for people to vote; he wants to ensure that Democratic votes don't count; he wants to enshrine a permanent Republican majority. She should also do a better job of protecting Massachusetts from the threat posed by data centers -- put some teeth into it and make them shut down.
